Phillip Dean Allen, New Artist Member Of The San Diego Museum Of Art Artist Guild

On Tuesday, November 5th, 2013, the Board of Directors to the historical SDMA Artists Guild approved and welcomed Phillip Dean Allen as a new Artist Guild Member to the San Diego Museum of Art. Founded in 1915 to coincide with the Panama-California World Exposition in Balboa Park, the SDMA Artists Guild has played a crucial role in bringing the arts and culture to the San Diego community. Most notably, charter guild members joined San Diego's earliest civic leaders to organize and fund the construction of the San Diego Museum of Art, which opened its doors in 1926. Mr. Phillip Allen joins an organization whose illustrious alumni include such California art luminaries as Maurice Braun, Leon Durrand Bonnet, Charles A. Fries, Russell Forester, John Baldessari, Jackson Woolley, Alfred R. Mitchell, and Reginald H Poland. The year 2015 will mark the 100th Anniversary of The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild.

The Contemporary Artists of San Diego's history and some of our members over the years include:
Anni Baldaugh
Belle Baranceanu
Captain James R. Brown
Donal Hord, "La Tehuana", 1936
Charles Reiffel
Ilse and Lloyd Ruocco
Olaf Weighorst

All these works of the founding art were created by Artists Guild members. They represent eighty-six years of creativity that the Guild has fostered through support of its members and the San Diego Museum of Art which it helped found. To celebrate its Centennial in 2015, The Artists Guild is researching the Guild’s rich history. One hundred artists who have contributed to the life of the arts in San Diego (and way beyond our borders) will be highlighted in a work 100 Artists: 100 Years. Perhaps the title Alive and Kicking: The Artists Guild would tell the story better. The History Committee of the Artists Guild welcomes your input into our telling of the stories of past Guild artists.

A photographic study of Italia; (Greek) meaning "land of young cattle"; these photographs depict an artist view of Italy from the incredible city of Venice; a city of islands, lagoons, canals and bridges; to Verona, Florence, Rome, Lecce and the beautiful west coast city of Sorrento. All of these photos have been enhanced with various techniques of color saturation to express my artistic impressionism. I hope you enjoy them.

The Darrell Keller Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research supports the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; we are committed to building a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a 501(c)3 non-profit that funds research, provides patient support, conducts community outreach and advocates for increased federal research funding for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. This year, over 42,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network provides patients and caregivers with information about treatment options, clinical studies and additional resources. Established in 1999 as an advocacy group for those impacted by pancreatic cancer, the organization now has over 70 volunteer affiliates around country that raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the only national organization creating hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure. The organization raises money for direct private funding of research—and advocates for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network fills the void of information and options by giving patients and caregivers reliable, personalized information they need to make informed decisions. The organization helps support individuals and communities all across the country work together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. We create a sense of hope and community so no one has to face pancreatic cancer alone.

Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Only 6% of pancreatic cancer patients survive more than five years. This is the LOWEST survival rate for all cancers. This year 43,140 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010 and 36,800 will pass away from the disease. There are no early detection methods, and currently there is NO CURE.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is making an impact. We have increased federal funding for pancreatic cancer research from $17 million in 1999 to $87 million in 2008. However, this is simply not enough.
